14 DAY TRIAL // Actor Morgan Freeman is neither dating nor planning to marry his 29-year-old step granddaughter. More than two years after the rumor of the affair first broke, the 74-year-old star is taking a stand to set the record straight.
Freeman and E'Dena Hines have been linked in the press as early as 2009, when various tabloids claimed that they were having an affair, much to the disappointment of the entire family.
It wasn't even the age gap that bothered them, but the fact that E'Dena is Freeman's step granddaughter that got everybody reeling when hearing the news.
As it happens, they had no reason to feel this way, the two say in a statement issued to various media outlets, E! News included.
There is no affair and there is certainly no engagement. Their relationship is strictly platonic and they have no plans whatsoever to be getting married any time soon – or ever, for that matter.
“The recent reports of any pending marriage or romantic relationship of me to anyone are defamatory fabrications from the tabloid media design to sell papers,” Freeman says in the statement.
“What is even more alarming is that these fabrications are now being [picked up] by the legitimate press as well,” the legendary actor adds.
However, he does not say which are these legitimate media outlets that have recently picked the story, and neither does he mention how “recent” the reports actually are.
“These stories about me and my grandfather are not only untrue, they are also very hurtful to me and my family,” E'Dena Hines also says.
As noted above, the two were first linked romantically in 2009 and not much has been heard about it ever since.
Back then, they were believed to be in an affair for many years, since E'Dena was in her teens. She was 27 at the time.
Word also had it that they were planning on getting married, even against the family's wishes if push came to shove, as we also reported.
