Video game developer BioWare and publisher Electronic Arts have announced that they are planning to make at least one important announcement linked to the MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic at the panel that they will be holding at ComicCon during Thursday.

The official announcement says, “At 3:30PM on Thursday, July 21st our panel for Star Wars: The Old Republic will be held inside room #6BCF. During the panel we will be answering questions from the audience, giving away some items, showing new gameplay footage and making some announcements!”

BioWare is aiming to keep the tension high and has not offered any hints on what the announcement might be but, considering that those interested have quite a lot of information on the game, the biggest piece of the puzzle that fans are missing is getting an official launch date for The Old Republic.

Initially, BioWare and Electronic Arts said that Star Wars: The Old Republic will be launched during the fall of 2010, but since then the MMO has been delayed and the two companies have refrained from offering a clear date.

EA executives have suggested that the game will be launched before the end of this summer but after the end of July.

Star Wars: The Old Republic is the first MMO that BioWare has developed and it certainly seems to be an ambitious projects, one that takes the core concepts of the genre and then puts the developer's spin on them to create a rival that can take on World of Warcraf, the current leader of the market.

BioWare has emphasized the story elements included in The Old Republic, saying that playing each class is like going through one full Knights of the Old Republic video game.

The MMO is also set to be fully voiced and will use a unique set of mechanics to allow all players in an instance to have a say in the decisions that are made regarding the game world.
