Video game developer PopCap Games has announced the results of the National Gamers Survey conducted in a number of European countries by Newzoo that shows that more than half of all the adults in the United Kingdom, Germany and France are playing video games on consoles, using casual game sites, mobile devices and social networks.

It seems that overall the United Kingdom is the country with the most video game players, with 68 percent of men and 59% of women playing while the percentages are set at 63 and, respectively, 54 for Germany.

French gamers make up 61 percent of the male population and 52% of the female population but they are the ones that spend most on their habit, going close to 30 dollars during one month, which is more than in the United States, where the average is just over 20 dollars.

Paul Breslin, who is the general manager of PopCap Europe, has stated, “What these results tell us is that a one size fits all strategy for Europe doesn’t work as there are quite different platform gaming habits, needs and expectations between France, Germany and the UK.”

He added, “This is clearly a maturing market that has by no means finished evolving. People want to play a range of different games across different platforms. From a publisher’s perspective, this shows the importance of having diversity and multi-platform solutions to reach individual markets in these important regions.”

The Newzoo survey as cited by PopCap Games also shows that games are the most popular in the age group made up of young people between 10 and 20 years, with players making up 87 percent of the population in the United Kingdom and 81 and 78% in France and in Germany.

PopCap has been recently purchased by publisher Electronic Arts and is set to expand the availability of its games on social networks and other platforms.
