Microsoft is going to bet big on the Windows Store once the new Windows 8.1 goes live, so the Softies are most likely delighted that more than 90,000 Metro apps are now available for download.

According to MetroStore Scanner, an unofficial service that monitors the Store and the listed entries, Windows 8 users are now allowed to choose from a total of 90,000 apps, most of which are delivered with a freeware license.

While these new figures are specifically aimed at the global version of the Store, you might see a smaller number of apps in your local stores, but this pretty much depends on your location.

Of course, many more apps are expected to be published once the new Windows 8.1 Preview goes live, so keep an eye on the Store in the coming months.
