The number of apps available on Windows 8 is continuously growing as we get closer to the official launch of Windows 8.1, an upgrade that’s expected to bring several improvements to Microsoft’s flagship operating system.

MetroStore Scanner, an unofficial service that keeps track of the number of apps available in the Windows Store, claims that Windows 8 adopters can now choose from no less than 60,000 Metro tools, most of which are offered with a freeware license.

Microsoft doesn’t release any official stats on the number of apps published in the Store, but keep in mind that these figures concern the global version of the app center, so fewer programs are actually available in local stores.

In the meantime, the number of apps approved for the Store per day has been increased too, as Microsoft’s effort to convince devs to port their software solutions to Windows 8 seem to pay off.
