Windows XP is scheduled to stop receiving updates and security patches on April 8, but millions of users worldwide are still running it right now, which makes it a bit worrying for both Microsoft and its customers.

A report by ABS CBN News reveals that Japan currently has more than 13 million of PCs running Windows XP, enough to secure a market share of 20 percent in the country.

At the same time, migration statistics indicate that the transition to Windows 8.1 has until now been relatively slow, and small and midsize businesses are yet to consider their options when it comes to moving to another operating system.

Government PCs are also running Windows XP, the same report ads, despite all Microsoft’s efforts in the country, which include incentives and support programs for those willing to upgrade their computers from the ancient operating system to a newer release.
