So many things have been said and written about Britney Spears in the past months that, had they all been positive, she would have been a greater star than before her marriage to Kevin Federline. Sadly, this was not the case and Brit's long hailed comeback soon turned into a circus, which prompted concerned fans to speak out against her public behavior.
It all culminated on New Year's Eve, when she was hosting a party at Pure club in Las Vegas and, 50 minutes after she rang in 2007, she had to be escorted out and to her hotel room. Her manager, Larry Rudolph, said she was tired and 'falling asleep'; the tabloids said she drank too much, which made her pass out in the middle of the VIP area of the club.
Immediately after that, rumor came out that on January 1st, Britney Spears checked into a private clinic for some R&R, meaning she went into rehab to deal with her alcohol issues. Another shock wave came as PageSix reported that the people at Jive Records were so unhappy about the star's behavior (and about the poor quality of the first five songs from her upcoming album) that they fired her.
Rudolph and the record label are now trying to set the record straight: we should never (EVER!) believe the hype! Britney is not in rehab, she hasn't been fired and she is not as dumb as we would want to believe. First things first: a press statement from Spears' long time label dismisses the claims made by PageSix: 'No rehab, and Cindy Adams' [the author of the article] piece is inaccurate. No clue where she got her "information". Britney is in the middle of recording. We will have an album in 2007.'
Then, the manager talked to 'USA Today' and attempted what can be easily qualified as another try at salvaging her reputation. 'She understands what's going on right now, and she calls it her "rocky moment". Britney knows exactly what she needs to do', he says of her recent pantyless and apparently drunken antics.
If one was to believe him, Britney is not happy with the way she was portrayed by the media (!), but she feels up to the challenge of winning whatever fans she lost since she started clubbing with the likes of Paris Hilton. Plus, she was not drunk on New Year's Eve. 'We were sitting there drinking orange juice. She got tired in a club, and we took her back to her room. Suddenly, I'm hearing words like "collapsed" and "passed out"', he explains.
Looking at things from a brighter perspective, Britney's album will come out in 2007, probably in late fall. It will be preceded by a single in the summer and then followed by a tour, an 'educated guess' would indicate. 'She's taking all the right steps. Britney Spears will be back and absolutely at the top of the entertainment industry very soon', Rudolph promises. And we so much want to believe him...
