Screens purport to show third-party device support, Facebook integration

New, alleged iTunes 9 imagery has been leaked on the Internet, showing Facebook integration and (hear this) third-party device support. None of these so-called findings can be confirmed right now, but the screenshots look real here at Softpedia.

In what has become a trend over at The Boy Genius Report, “A tipster just dropped a new handful of iTunes 9 screenshots in our inbox and while their authenticity cannot be confirmed, they’re certainly worth mentioning,” BGR claims.

“[...] This new round of screenshots, allegedly of an early iTunes 9 beta, may help support some of the info we exclusively detailed. The first notable feature depicted in the new shots is the Facebook integration. The images show the ability to create a new playlist and then share it on Facebook. The Facebook entry that subsequently appears on the user’s FB wall will include an iTunes link, presumably pointing to the shared playlist found on an iTunes page,” BGR explains.

As shown in the screens below, third-party device support will be enabled in iTunes 9. Going by the image to the left, the user allegedly connected a device capable of storing 27.86GB of data.

What could it be? Well, knowing how easy it is to rename your iPhone / iPod touch in iTunes’ left pane (click to select / highlight the device, wait a second or two, then click again and type the new name), it may well be one of Apple’s own devices. Some GIMP editing can handle the job of erasing the iPhone’s serial number and other portions of the page where the “iPhone” is mentioned and that’s that. Who would go through all this trouble for a worthless iTunes 9 rumor, you say? Take our word for it – quite a few people.

Blu-ray support was also said to come with iTunes 9, although BGR makes no mentioning of this anymore. As usual, you have the final word on stuff like this – true or false?
