iPhone Atlas has posted comments from iPhone users disappointed with the offerings of firmware 2.2, released just this week. Apparently, the issues with the new OS version stretch further than just 3G speeds and battery life.

Missing apps have been reported, with some users noting “sudden disappearance” of iPhone applications after installing the 2.2 software update. According to the source, some users started having trouble even with the apps that shipped with the device – in the form that they could not be accessed or deleted.

“Today all of a sudden I don’t have Safari or Camera,” one reader comments. “I did a sync and they’re not there. Then a reset and nothing. Then synced again after the reset and nothing. Big bummer since I use Safari all the time. I’m figuring it has to be a software issue. I thought I’d throw it out there, in case others are experiencing the same.”

“Since updating yesterday, I have had serious cell connectivity issues,” another reader adds. “The phone is constantly ‘Searching’ for cell service in areas where it was not a problem before yesterday.”

Moreover, while some are experiencing slow 3G speeds, others simply can't switch off the connection after updating, as this user reveals “After the 2.2 firmware upgrade, my phone does not pick up nor automatically connects to my wireless network, it is permanently on 3G. T tried [sic] rebooting my phone, didnt [sic] make any difference.”

Others simply cannot even get the 2.2 software up on their devices, the same source reveals. While some see the installation process failing partway through, others become stuck in recovery mode, “typified by the image of a USB cable pointing at an iTunes logo.”

The source points out to two knowledge base articles over at Apple Support, for assistance on installing firmware 2.2 successfully. However, with all these negative reports floating around, one starts to question whether installing the update is such a good idea.
