Microsoft is determined to overthrow Sony's supremacy on the gaming market. Launched in a direct marketing event at MTV, with which Microsoft tried to address directly the potential customers of Xbox 360, the promotion campaign was spiced by arguments that Xbox 360 will be backed by more games titles than Sony PlayStation 3.
If Sony tried to focus their presentation on hardware specs and performance, Microsoft is trying to persuade all the users that Xbox 360, although inferior from hardware point of view compared to PlayStation 3, will be able to provide more entertainment than its rival.
Although Microsoft already announced an impressive list of 140 titles that are ready to be launched for Xbox 360, the most important argument in favor of the new gaming console leaked today on the Net, thanks to Gates himself: the potential release date for Halo 3.
In a cover story published last week in Time magazine, the Microsoft chief software architect was quoted as saying that the company would have "Halo 3" ready by the time Sony releases its PlayStation 3 next year.
Although Gates hopes that Halo 3 will come at the right time to complicate Sony's launching event, Robbie Bach, Microsoft senior vice president and chief Xbox officer, is more moderated in declarations.
"We haven't announced anything on what Bungie is doing or where we're going with the future of the 'Halo' franchise," Bach said. "With all respect to Bill, I don't run Bungie's studio, and neither does he. We'll work with the Bungie guys and let people know when they have something to announce".
Maybe Gates knows something more than its employees? Or he is just trying to be an incorrigible optimist?
