Microsoft has once more promised that hardcore games for its Kinect motion detection sensor are in development and that serious gamers will be amazed of the titles that will arrive for the device.

Microsoft's Kinect sensor has been a phenomenal success, selling millions of units since it was launched back in November of last year.

The games released for it, from Microsoft's own Kinect Sports, to Harmonix's Dance Central or Ubisoft's Fighters Uncaged, have all sold lots of units, confirming that the device is a profitable one.

As such, Microsoft is once again promising that more core games will be made for the Kinect, in order to draw in existing Xbox 360 owners that don't want family or kid games.

According to Microsoft's interactive entertainment business senior producer, Kevin Unangst, the special spring showcase the company will reveal later this month, is highlighting the more mature Kinect experiences.

"There are many [hardcore games] coming," he said to CVG. "This is sort of scratching the surface of what's happening, but we've got Child of Eden here today, we've got Twisted Pixel's Gunstringer... and certainly you're going to see more. We're not even a hundred days since we launched Kinect yet. It was very intentional with Kinect to go out and deliver blockbusters like Kinect Sports and Dance Central - games that resonated with a broader audience."

Unangst said that Microsoft was helping third-party developers with special tools to unlock the Kinect's true potential, and that this would show what the sensor could actually do once people know how to make games for it.

Its special features, including voice control or facial recognition, will allow for it to be used in more creative ways than in regular core games.

"There's a whole host of things [for core developers], whether it's voice control, face recognition and all the tech that Kinect makes possible. Now that we've got it in the hands of developers you're going to see more and more core games. This is just the beginning."

Microsoft was adamant at the end of 2010 that this year will be all about the Kinect, so it's great to hear once more that core gamers will have something to do with the device in the future.
