Microsoft could finally address this problem today

It’s not a secret that several of the updates released by Microsoft in the last couple of years have caused havoc on Windows systems, and complaints keep coming on a number of broken patches that are apparently yet to be fixed by the software giant.

If you’re on Windows 7, you might already be familiar with error code 800F0816, which is often displayed when trying to install Windows updates, including KB979482.

The error first appeared in August 2012 and was then confirmed by many more Windows 7 users who pointed out that it wasn’t just a single update that was causing this error, but several others, both new and old.

And in posts that have been published in the last few days, more users confirm this error, which is living proof that Microsoft is yet to address it.

Here’s a message posted yesterday by a user whose computers are stuck with this error:

“Like many others, I've been having an increasing number of problems installing an increasing portion of each month's Patch Tuesday updates on my Windows 7 Ultimate x64 machine, starting with the August, 2014 fiasco. Nearly all updates that require a restart are failing with error 800F0816, though other errors occasionally occur. Updates that don't require a restart generally succeed.”

No successful workaround

Needless to say, users whose computers are affected by this problem tried all kinds of workarounds, including the removal of antivirus software, reboots, Safe Mode update install, manual install of each update and sfc /scannow, but nothing worked in all cases so far.

Later today, Microsoft will release this month’s Patch Tuesday fixes, so the company might give another shot to fixes that would address these errors once and for all.

The company hasn’t yet provided any sort of information on what could be the cause of the error, despite the fact that several users have already confirmed it. Only Windows 7 machines seem to be affected until now.
