Last week Sony put up a teaser site, indicating the release of a new Vaio portable system, coming to revolutionize the market. Back then, there were hardly any details concerning the upcoming laptop, but a number of rumors appeared to indicate that the new Vaio laptop was going to come out as the first Sony netbook. This still seems to be the case, as the most recent details point towards a small-sized Vaio laptop that has the technical specifications generally associated with those that you are likely to find on a netbook system.

Expected to come out as the Vaio “Pocket” netbook, the upcoming portable computer system from Sony will be meant to provide users with an alternative to all those Atom-powered netbooks, currently available on the market. Said Vaio will be part of the company's P-series and will debut as an 8-inch portable computer system. It is expected that the “Pocket” netbook will be launched during the next Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada.

According to additional details on the purported netbook, Sony will provide its customers with a system that comes in three colors, namely Black Silk, Champagne Gold and Crimson Red. The 8-inch LED backlit LCD screen can provide an impressive resolution of 1600 by 768 pixels. A 1.33GHz Atom processor will power the netbook, while a choice of either a 60GB hard drive or a 128GB solid state drive makes up for the system's storage.

All of the aforementioned specifications are to be confirmed by the company, while details regarding the weight, measurements and price tag of the Vaio “Pocket” netbook are to become available in the near future. Since the first rumors of a Vaio netbook, people have been skeptic about Sony's capability of providing a low-cost portable system, given that its Vaio laptops are known for the relatively high price tags.
