Planetside 2 might still be in open beta stage, but the development team working on the game at Sony Online Entertainment is already thinking about adding more planets to the game in order to allow gamers to explore worlds other than Auraxis.

Jason Good, the game designer working on the MMO, has told VG247 that, “There are a number of different directions we go could post launch which could certainly include new worlds beyond Auraxis – but right now we’re all focused on Beta and getting PlanetSide 2 ready to launch.”

The developer also talked about the beta stage and acknowledged the contribution that gamers could have to the final version of the game, with feedback required to shape the core mechanics and eliminate any potential glitches.

Good also reflected on the development effort and added, “Bug fixes that once could have been put off become urgent, the community expands, and now there’s a ton of new data to examine. One of the things that I think surprised us all was just how epic the combat felt right from the get go with Beta.”

He also repeated the company line that the experiences that Planetside 2 offered in terms of big battles could not be replicated by any other MMO on the market.

Planetside 2 uses most of the core ideas of the first game with the same name and allows players to join one of three factions and then battle for control over the various areas of Auraxis.

The SOE-developed games mix traditional MMO mechanics with elements taken from the first-person shooter, making player skill an integral part of the game.

The beta stage for the game has been running for more than one month.

Planetside 2 will be launched exclusively on the PC, but it currently lacks a clear launch date.
