There used to be a time when all we could find in our daily search on the Internet was more of those low power, small-sized, portable computer systems we now call netbooks. Well, it appears that there's new buzz on the Internet, as far as leaked information is concerned, namely that generated by the upcoming X58-based platforms and the Core i7 processors. The latest round of pictures to reveal the layout of a forthcoming X58-based motherboard come to show us that Gigabyte has almost completed the development of its EX58-Extreme board.
A set of images of this mobo had already surfaced, but it now appears that Gigabyte has almost finished work on its new high-end motherboard. As the new pictures that have been posted on the xfastest forum show, the overall layout of the board seems to be well-thought out, with a fair use of the color code, allowing users to easily identify the different on-board connectors, ports and slots. The cooling solution that Gigabyte has chosen for its upcoming motherboard takes up a considerable amount of space, and raises some questions as to whether users can fully benefit from all the board's features.
From what we can tell from the available pictures, the PCI-Express X1 and X4 slots on the motherboard will not be usable due to the cooling solution placed on the board's Northbridge. Moreover, Gigabyte appears to have taken the temperature reduction aspect rather seriously, as it will provide an additional fansink for the Northbridge, which will most certainly leave no space for the afore-mentioned PCI-Express slots.
Aside from that, the features on this Core i7-supporting mobo are bound to make Gigabyte's upcoming Extreme product a favorite among computer enthusiasts. Unfortunately, despite Gigabyte already being ready with the new board, users will still have to wait until sometime next month, when Intel is expected to officially take the wraps off its next-generation desktop platform, before having a chance to test one for themselves.
