About threats in August

The month of August was full of threats and you would be terrified if you read all the reports, but to be honest with you, this is just the normal level on the Web. We're facing trojans, worms, spam and others daily. A lot of people get infected everyday and that's just a fact. Security experts from Sophos have made a lot of nice charts, in order to explain how malware acted during the month of August.

Sophos is a world leader in IT security and control. Sophos offers complete protection and control to business, education and government organizations - defending against known and unknown malware, spyware, intrusions, unwanted applications, spam, policy abuse and uncontrolled network access, as seen on their site. The top malware hosting countries are China, The United States and Russia in this exact order. China is leading with a huge 44.8%, a fact which only seems natural to me. I mean, just look at the facts, the countries with the most population host the most malware. And since China has the large population on Earth, I guess it is normal for them to be the leaders. Just think how many servers they own, and how many tech-savvy people are amongst them. So, I guess this means that more people equals more malware.

What came to me as a surprise was the fact that Ukraine came in fourth. Now these guys must have some serious hacker activity, going on there, considering that they host close to 8% of world malware. More than 90% of malware is reported by Sophos to be in those four countries, but that doesn't mean that if you navigate outside their servers you'll be safe. Just think about the fact that 5.000 new malware sites appear daily, so, as the song goes, "it's a jungle out there!".
