SanDisk Corporation announced that it will soon begin extended shipments of solid state drives (SSDs for short) units to computer systems integrating companies. This move comes after the storage manufacturing company successfully completed an OEM launch of its 32GB solid state drive that comes packed in the 2.5 small form factor and uses the Serial ATA interface in order to be compatible with the majority of the mainstream mobile
computers' designs.

The solid state drive from SanDisk can be used to completely replace the traditional hard disk drive in most notebook and laptop systems as it fits perfectly into the same 2.5 inch slot. As the solid state drives are now gaining more market acceptance and thanks to the fact that their price is declining, SanDisk decided to offer its SSD line of products to computer systems integrators as well as general consumers.

"System integrators will now have the ability to offer the SanDisk SSD as part of their solution and bring it to their customer base", said Scott Deutsch, vice president of worldwide sales for SanDisk's Computing Solutions Division. "As a result, this will make SSD-based systems available to large enterprises and small-to-medium businesses that choose to take advantage of SSD over the typical hard disk drives."

In the United States, SanDisk will closely work with a number of specialized companies like Ingram Micro Inc., D&H Distributing and Bell Microproducts in order to perfect the shipments of solid state drives to computer manufacturing companies that are expecting the 32GB units to arrive in October. The SSD distribution network will be further expanded in 2008 as SanDisk plans to offer its hard disk drives replacements in Europe too, while increasing its presence on the U.S. market.

The new distribution system is expected to allow SanDisk to better its position in relation to the computer manufacturing companies, as the flash-based solutions are very popular nowadays and most of the high-end mobile computing devices are integrating them as either hard disk drives replacements or as means to improve the general performance of the host systems. As SanDisk plans to expand its solid state drive distribution network in order to reach all the important computer systems integrating companies, the general availability of the new storage devices will increase while their price tag will start to slowly go down, enabling a further market adoption of these new drives.
