The iTunes movie database gets larger by the day

More film companies agree to sell their productions via Apple's iTunes online store. News today says IFC Entertainment has agreed with Apple to put their film catalog on iTunes.They said they would "deliver to iTunes shoppers all of its 2007 Independent Spirit Award nominees". Spirit Award is the most prestigious independent film award and IFC has recently received most Spirit nominations.

IFC has immediately made available for purchase 13 movies, 6 of which are nominated for the upcoming Spirit Awards that will take place on Saturday, February 24th. Eddy Cue, iTunes vice president, said "We're delighted to be adding full length independent films to the world's most popular online movie store".

"By making IFC films available on the world's most popular online movie store we're giving independent filmmakers the exciting opportunity to reach a wider audience of movie enthusiasts," stated Lisa Schwartz, senior vice president of sales and business development at IFC Entertainment.

The IFC productions will be sold for $9.99, the regular iTunes price for motion pictures. The iTunes film catalog now holds over 400 titles and it has become the most popular on-line movie store in the world. It has already sold over 1.3 million films.

The first entertainment company that announced the sell of their products via iTunes online store was giant Paramount, followed last mont by Lions Gate, the leading independent film studio from Canada. More industry names are expected to join soon.

Movies downloaded from the iTunes store can be viewed on computers as well as Apple TVs and fifth generation iPods. Their quality is comparable to DVD.
