14 DAY TRIAL // Soon, startup mobile phone maker OnePlus will bring to the market the very first handset to have been designed from the ground up to fit the CyanogenMod software, none other than the previously teased OnePlus One.
The new smartphone will arrive on the market with the Android 4.4 KitKat-based CyanogenMod 11 release loaded on top right from the start, and it will pack a variety of high-end hardware and capabilities, it seems.
OnePlus has done an “Ask Me Anything” session on Reddit, where it unveiled some of the phone’s specs, as well as its intentions with the project.
For example, the company revealed that the kernel source code for the smartphone, along with stock images for it, will become available when the handset lands on shelves.
For those out of the loop, we should note that CyanogenMod made a similar move with the OPPO N1, which was launched last year with native support for their software.
The phone is also said to arrive on the market with stereo speakers, and it should feature high-end build quality. In fact, the company compared it to the OPPO Find 5, claiming that it will be better than last year’s phone.
“We designed the OnePlus One to be easy to handle with one hand, while at the same time having the largest possible display size under these circumstances. How? By having a slim body, tapered edges and narrow bezels,” Carl Pei, director of OnePlus Global, said.
As far as the smartphone’s hardware specifications are concerned, some of the previous reports on the matter suggested that we’ll see it released with a 5-inch touchscreen display capable of delivering a full HD resolution, though it appears that it won’t be an OLED one.
Moreover, OnePlus One is expected to feature a Snapdragon 800 processor inside, which means that it will be able to provide users with great performance capabilities.
The smartphone will be launched in 16GB and 64GB variants, though a 32GB model won’t arrive on the market, it seems. The phone will also come with a notifications LED.
As GSMArena notes, OnePlus has yet to offer specific info on the phone’s battery and outer case (at the moment, it is expected to be made out of metal). The vendor did unveil, however, that users will enjoy over one day of battery juice on a single charge.
Apparently, the phone maker will launch only the OnePlus One this year, though chances are that it might announce a new one during the next. Stay tuned for further details on the matter.
