More information on the upcoming ATI Radeon HD 4830 graphics card has emerged to the Web. The latest leaked specifications are close to what we were expecting to see on AMD's new card and come with the “AMD Confidential” mark on them. The new graphics solution is set for launch on October 21 and is said to come as a direct competitor to NVIDIA's GeForce 9800 GT GPU.

The previously leaked information on the 4830 card showed it as featuring 480 stream processors, but the new specs published by VR-Zone show it with 640 SP. The GPU will come with a 256-bit memory interface and with 512MB of GDDR3 memory. It seems that the red graphics card manufacturer will give AIBs the freedom to design their own cards, meaning that the core clock and memory size/type will most probably differ from one maker to another.

The key features of Radeon HD 4830 include support for DirectX10.1, 24x custom filter anti-aliasing (CFAA) and high performance anisotropic filtering as well as ATI CrossFireX multi-GPU support for “highly scalable performance”. The card will also feature PCI Express 2.0 support, dynamic geometry acceleration and game physics processing capability. The ATI PowerPlay technology and the ATI Avivo HD video and display technology have been included in the features of the card as well. As expected, the HD 4830 will also have a built-in HDMI with 7.1 surround sound support.

The leaked info also includes packaging guidelines for the ATI Radeon HD 4830 graphics. The manufacturer recommends the use of a 450 watt power supply which features a 75 watt 6-pin PCI Express power connector. For those who want to use the card in CrossFireX mode, a 550 watt power supply with two 6-pin connectors is recommended. The requirements also include a minimum of 1GB of system memory and specific optical drives for installation and DVD or Blu-ray playback.

The use of ATI CrossFireX requires two ATI Radeon HD compatible cards, an ATI CrossFireX Ready motherboard as well as the specific Interconnect cables. Radeon HD 4830 GPU is expected to hit the market at a price tag under $150.
