The Mountain View company debuted Google Search Appliance version 5.0, the hardware solution which is supposed to provide search capabilities for the enterprise consumers. The new technology comes with lots of improvements meant to improve the efficiency and the security of Search Appliance such as: support for Microsoft Windows Integrated Authentication, secure crawling and serving of file system content as well as significant performance increases in the SAML-based Authentication and Authorization API. Google Search Appliance was first launched in 2002 and since then, no less than 10,000 companies registered for the product.

"When we launched the first Google Search Appliance five years ago, we had a vision to make search inside of business as simple and effective as searching on Google.com," said Dave Girouard, vice president and general manager of Google Enterprise. "By combining Google's deep knowledge in search with more understanding and control for environments behind the firewall, we are helping businesses keep pace with the velocity of information."

The new Google Search Appliance comes in several flavors for multiple countries such as English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Dutch, Swedish, Russian, Finnish, Danish, Norwegian, Chinese simplified, Chinese traditional, Japanese, Korean and Brazilian Portuguese.
