The company didn't update the release notes

Google Earth 4.2 was released a few days ago but the parent company Google didn't publish any change log to reveal the improvements of the latest version of the application. That's why the Internet users and the fans of the downloadable mapping tool are digging into the program in order to find new things and share them with the rest of the community. Beside the already popular Sky in Google Earth update, it seems like the Mountain View company also included some not so obvious improvements that were discovered by the users. For example, the Google Earth Blog wrote that you're now able to use some new icons for the placemarks because the old ones were replaced in the latest release of the application.

"Last night, I noticed that the standard icons used for placemarks have changed. They are now more similar in style to the icons used in the layers and in Google My Maps," it is mentioned on the blog.

As you can see in the picture attached to the article, the icons are very similar but the change is obvious. Some users who posted comments on the Google Earth Blog message are talking about an imagery update in Thailand where some streets are now available in high-resolution. Although it might look like the photos were included several weeks ago, Google didn't mention them as an update.

Google Earth is an attractive solution and we all agree with it since the Mountain View company introduces revolutionary functions such as Sky. If you didn't hear about it, Sky in Google Earth allows you to view the stars and the planets just like a virtual telescope. However, the most attractive thing of Google Earth is still the quality of the pictures it offers because numerous users are downloading the application to view the imagery from certain locations of the world.
