Following the official release of Samsung Galaxy S5 earlier this year, rumors on the upcoming availability of a Google Play Edition version of the device have emerged online, and they appear to have resurfaced this week.

New leaked images with the smartphone are now available for your viewing pleasure, showing a familiar design, while also unveiling some interesting new tidbits.

Two new photos depicting the handset have emerged online courtesy of infamous tipster @evleaks, one of them (above) showing the device with on-screen buttons, while the other one (below) displaying it without this feature.

The first images with the handset made it online a few months ago, but Samsung hasn’t made an official announcement on its availability as of now, and there’s no info on when it might actually release it.

Considering the fact that other leading phone makers out there have already launched GPe versions of their flagship devices, Samsung is expected to make a similar move too, despite the lack of an official confirmation.

The same as other Google Play Edition models, the new one would run under the stock version of Android. In terms of hardware, however, it should sport everything that the original did.

In Galaxy S5’s case, that would include a 5.1-inch touchscreen display capable of delivering a full HD resolution, as well as a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor.

Moreover, the mobile phone should feature 2GB of RAM inside, along with 16GB/32GB of internal memory, and a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 128GB of additional storage space.

On the back, the handset sports a 16-megapixel camera capable of recording videos in 4K resolution, which is complemented by a 2MP front camera for making video calls while on the go.

Moreover, Samsung Galaxy S5 arrives on shelves with all of the usual connectivity capabilities inside, such as 4G LTE, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, and a built-in GPS receiver. Not to mention the entire set of common sensors, to which Samsung has added a heart rate monitor and a fingerprint scanner.

When launched, Samsung Galaxy S5 Google Play Edition might run under the Android 4.4.4 KitKat operating system out of the box, with no customizations loaded on top.

However, should Samsung decide to push the release of this smartphone to the fall, we might see it launched with Android L on top right from the start, though we doubt that this will happen. Stay tuned for more on the matter.
