Square Enix just wrapped up an event called DK Sigma3173 Event and they could not stop talking about Final Fantasy XIII, which might be the company's biggest hit to date. They talked about cross platform development and about the plans they have for the run up to the launch of the game.

The major Xbox 360 related announcement at E3 was that Final Fantasy XIII was no longer a PlayStation 3 exclusive and that the game was also coming to the Microsoft made console.

In a video showed at Sigma3173, game director Motomu Toriyama said that "We haven't changed the direction of the development. We're making the PS3 version first, and then porting to the 360 later", confirming that the Sony made device is still the primary medium for the game. The issue is that the launch of the game might be pushed back a little as the Xbox 360 version is ported, which might be bad news for gamers in North America and in Europe, where launches for concurrent platforms will be simultaneous.

And it seems that the Square Enix team which is creating the game also lacks some of the tools that Microsoft promised them but the team is emphasizing that the game is not going to lose quality because of the multiple platform development.

The bad news is that rumors of a PC version of FFXIII have been outed as being untrue. Even if the development process is done on the PC, the game is at the moment only developed for the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3.

The game is set to receive a demo which will ship with Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children in March 2009 to give fans a taste of what's to come. Square Enix says that it plans to pack quite a bit of content in the demo, to make sure that everyone can make up his mind about Final Fantasy XIII before it hits the market.
