The promise from Microsoft on Exchange 2010’s one year anniversary is that Exchange customers and partners will take advantage of additional enhancements to the product in the coming year.

Rajesh Jha, Corporate Vice President, Microsoft Exchange did not say what specific improvements are planned for Exchange, but underlined that the solution will continue to evolve in the coming year.

Exchange 2010 has now entered its second year on the market since general availability, and the software giant is boasting tremendous response from both partners and customers, while not releasing any actual sales numbers.

However, the Redmond company did make public statistics related to the adoption of Exchange, revealing that it’s the most used email solution for a variety of business customer segments.

“Twice a year, the Exchange team runs a survey of businesses of all sizes asking what messaging system they use.

"The research shows that Exchange market share has never been greater. In US enterprises with over 500 PC’s, an incredible 73% of organizations use Exchange as their primary email system,” said Julia White, Senior Director, Exchange Product Management.

Exchange is certainly the dominant product on the business email market, with the runner up accounting for just 2% of users as far as In US enterprises with over 500 PC’s are concerned.

“In each of the largest G7 countries, in every size organization from small companies with less than 25 PC's to the largest enterprises, Exchange is being used by more businesses than any other email system,” Jha added.

“And many organizations are quickly moving to Exchange 2010. In the US and Canada, over 12% of large companies have already upgraded. Plus, over 11 million users of Live@Edu are using Exchange 2010 online.”

This year Exchange 2010 customers received their first major upgrade to the product with the launch of Service Pack 1

“We are continuously working to make Exchange even better, too. Over the last year, we released Exchange Server 2010 Service Pack 1.

“This release had a number of features you asked for, including archiving enhancements and Outlook Web App improvements, making it even easier to deploy and manage Exchange 2010 and increase productivity,” Jha said.
