Reports claim the MacBook Air line is also getting an overhaul

Two days ago, we were reporting that MacBook Touch rumors were building up speculation as to what the system could look like, perform and, ultimately, when it would be available on the market. As it turns out, even more "leaked" details have surfaced.

Seth Weintraub, writing for Computerworld, claims that "talk amongst insiders on the new MacBooks," although a bit "scattered," has revealed more information regarding Apple's rumored Mac tablet. Besides MacBook Touch, Apple is also said to have some improvements within the scope of its MacBook Air.

"The new models are thinner than current MacBook and MacBook Pros and slightly more rounded, taking design cues from the MacBook Air," the report reads, referring to the alleged iTouch. "The trackpad is glass, multi-touch and uses gestures. The screen isn't multi-touch," Weintraub notes. "The body is manufactured out of one piece of aluminum. Eco-friendly, yet sturdy. Manufacturing process is completely different," the author claims, adding that a possible release date would be the "last week(s) of September," as previously reported.

As far as the MacBook Air is concerned, Apple's plans for an overhaul are said to include Intel Centrino 2 chips, 16:9 screens, "which come in slightly bigger sizes: 14 inch and 15. 6 inch with different resolutions, obviously," the author points out, and "a 45nm processor (Atom?) to help with that battery life."

Softpedia take: It wouldn't be too big a surprise to see these last details materialize - introducing higher-performance chips is always considered the next step, no matter what computer maker we are taking about. Battery optimization is also a huge priority for laptop makers. However, we are still holding our breath for more solid details about the MacBook Touch. Although a device such as this is also considered a logical step for the company, pretty much anyone who knows Apple's ways a bit could come up with claims as to what features it may boast. Some factory spy shots would certainly do the trick.
