Christina Aguilera had the best Valentine’s Day ever because it was also the day when her boyfriend of 3 years, film production assistant Matt Rutler, proposed to her. More details on the gorgeous engagement ring he presented her with have now emerged online.

While we don’t know yet how many carats it has or how much it costs, at least we have this: the ring was designed by Rutler himself and it took him one year to complete it.

Moreover, a source tells People magazine the ring has a deeper meaning than just that of being a piece of jewelry used to ask for Christina’s hand in marriage: because of the way it’s created, it symbolizes their 3-year romance and the many experiences they have shared so far.

“[It] represent[s] their three-year journey together as a couple. He has been planning this for a while and was just waiting for the right time — the ring has been done for months. Every single placement of each stone has a reason and meaning,” says the spy.

“The actual band weaves and intertwines [the] diamonds. Every connecting criss-cross symbolizes how their paths crossed… the ring narrows at the base [to] reflect how their bond continues to grow closer and stronger over time,” the source continues.

And there’s more to the ring than meets the eye, because, the same insider explains, some elements aren’t even visible to the naked eye – not if you don’t know where to look at least.

“There are nine special multi-color gemstones that you cannot see. They all symbolize something meaningful to the couple. Christina is very spiritual and having the stones touch her actual skin will emit positive energies surrounding her at all times. They represent things like love, protection and healing,” explains the spy.

In the design of the new ring, Matt also included two of Christina’s favorite baubles because he wanted the final jewelry item to represent “both their lives coming together as one,” the source continues.

He or she doesn’t offer an approximate date for the wedding, adding just that the two are very much in love and, understandably, very eager to move on to the next stage of their relationship.
