With a built-in fingerprint reader

While this is not the first time it has been found on the FCC, more details regarding a new HTC device have become available. Thanks to the FCC, responsible for all that information on phones before they get released, several features of HTC's enterprise communicator, dubbed the 'Census,' have now been revealed.

The first thing one notices is the device's rather unusual rectangular form factor. Census will apparently be a Pocket PC that works on CDMA network supporting CDMA 2000 1x EV-DO, which means Sprint and Verizon Wireless might consider picking this handheld up.

The Census also comes equipped with GPS, Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC Edition, an Intel Bulverde processor running at 416MHz, 128MB ROM, 64MB SDRAM, a 3.5 inch screen with a 240 x 320 pixel resolution, Bluetooth and IrDA for connectivity. An SD card slot will also ensure that the user has enough storage space at hand.

Unfortunately for some, it doesn't include a camera and seems to be dedicated entirely to business users. Its owner will get all the usual Windows Mobile applications that enable them to work while on the move, such as Word, Excel and Powerpoint document readers. The device also includes a fingerprint reader, for security purposes.

While this is not official, the handheld will most likely end up on wireless carrier Sprint's lineup. A screenshot in the user's manual also appears to suggest this. For the moment, there are no details on when it will become available, but since it was spotted at the FCC, it means that it's definitely on its way.
