AT&T, as reported yesterday, plans to add to its offering an Android mobile phone, namely the HTC Lancaster, yet it seems that this won't be the only handset the carrier will have in its lineup with Google's operating system, as the newly spotted Motorola Heron, also known as the Iron Man, is also coming to the operator's airwaves under the same conditions.

The Motorola handset was spotted for the first time about a month ago, yet nothing was really sure about it at that moment, and now it has resurfaced in a series of leaked slides on the carrier's roadmap, which the fellows over at Engadget managed to get their hands on. According to the documents, AT&T will add this Android-based device as well, and it is expecting for it to become available sometime during the holiday season.

What this mobile phone is said to deliver to AT&T users is a 2.8-inch QVGA touchscreen display, a sliding full-QWERTY keypad, a 3-megapixel photo snapper with fixed focus, LED flash and video recording capabilities, audio and video players, Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR class 2 connectivity, and microUSB 2.0 port.

In addition, the device also comes around with HSDPA, HSUPA and dual-band UMTS connectivity, integrated GPS / sGPS support, HTML browser, support for Locations Services and Social networking sites, SMS, MMS and Instant Messaging capabilities, support for email, 256MB of flash memory, 128Mb RAM, and microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space.

The Motorola Heron measures 57.5 x 104 x 15.9mm and weighs 125 grams, featuring quad-band GSM, HSDPA 3.6Mbps, GPRS / EDGE class 10 connectivity. The handset is expected to become available for purchase via AT&T around November this year, though some things might change in the meantime, so stay tuned to learn more details on it as soon as they come out.

QVGA? 128 MB of RAM? This phone is way weaker than the iPhone, Palm Pre and both the T-Mobile G1 and HTC Magic. If Motorola really expects to jump back into competetiveness shouldn't it do so by providing a better phone? These specs alone prove that the phone is already much worse than the other main contenders in the smart phone market at this time, and with a November release date this phone will look even worse when it comes out since it's safe to assume other smartphone contenders will emerge with even better specs than phones like the G1 and iPhone.

What I want is an HTC Touch Pro 2 with Android on it. Is that too much to ask?
