One logo, no processors

As the time draws near for the official launch date of the world's first native quad core processors, some more details are beginning to surface all over the Web. A number of things, like processors working frequencies and so on are already known but the latest bit of news is not strictly about technology, but about design and marketing. So, here it is, the Barcelona based processors' branding logo.

While the first Barcelona quad core processors intended for use in server systems under the general Opteron brand are only going to come in two variants, the standard 2GHz one and the lower power and lower speed 1.9GHz one, on the 10th of September, the better 2.3GHz edition and faster CPUs are going to follow up later. AMD will have to hurry the release of its faster quad core processors for servers as its rival, Intel may announce the launch date of the faster Harpertown processor based on the Penryn core anytime now.

As the date for the launch of the quad core Opterons approaches, AMD embarked in a campaign to popularize and show off its processor architecture in order to secure as much orders from the start as possible because the company is already in a difficult financial situation. While most of these presentations and demonstrations are covered from head to toe by NDAs, the shorthand for non disclosure agreement, some information always emerges and this is just the situation with the new black, green and white Opteron logo. Presented as a "truly beautifully conceptualized" logo, the new artwork will be officially shown at the 10th of September launch but as the sales and marketing executive from AMD just announced its resignation, the company will have to find another equally bold speaker. According to the news site the theinquirer[http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=41914], the symbolism of the new logo is clear, being either a black hole in which money are poured or an escape route from Intel's market dominance. As the afore mentioned site also said it is also possible that the mini black hole from the Opteron logo may very well swallow Intel's Harpertowns, Nehalems and Sandy Bridges, but that only customer satisfaction will decide.
