When Richard Neal went to see his doctor and was told he would not live to see 30 if he continued at his weight of 430 pounds (195 kg), he thought his life was over. As it turns out, it was just beginning. Now 250 pounds (113.3 kg) slimmer and $100,000 (€81,473) richer, Richard is determined to help others who might be in the same situation he was in before.
He recently spoke to News 2 about his incredible accomplishment – the video is
here.
After he got his death sentence from the doctor, Neal went home and decided to try and get back in shape all on his own.
He bought the famous home weight loss / training program P90X, which was created by fitness guru Tony Horton years ago. Today, he still remembers how grueling it was for him to get started on it.
“My doctor told me, 'Richard you're not going to live. You're not going to see your 30th birthday.' 'Knowing I wasn't going to see my 30th birthday, knowing I wasn't able to have any kids because of me being obese, I gave up on life,” he says in an interview with News 2.
Despite the “brutal” workouts, Neal powered through and kept at it.
Just recently, Beachbody, the makers of P90X, awarded him for his incredible feat of losing over half his body weight by presenting him with a $100,000 (€81,473) check.
This enables him to be a full-time coach, in a bid to help out other people who might be in need of counseling and motivation.
Before all this, Mr. Neal was a restaurant manager.
“I'm debt free and now I'm able to coach full time,” he says in the interview.
“[I want to] try to help somebody. Help them change their life. It's the most fulfilling thing in the world,” Richard adds, tearing up.
