Canvas, the photo sharing and remixing site created by 4chan's Christopher Poole (moot), is now live for everyone. The site had been in private beta for a few months now as it built new features and a strong core community. Now, the site is live and can be used and visited by anyone.

The site is still in beta, but anyone can sign up, without an invite. Canvas enables users to share images and photos they've created, with the big emphasis being on remixing and memes, but also to create their own images via the web editor.

"We’re opening up the site to the public today!," the site announced on its blog.

"Now you can browse the site without logging in, and sign up without an invite code. We’ll continue to use Facebook since we are still in beta," it said. "And invites are unlimited now, so invite your friends!"

"A big, big THANK YOU to all of our private beta users for the awesome feedback and for helping us improve the site! Be sure to check your user page for the special badge we gifted you," it added.

While many draw comparisons to 4chan, since both sites have the same founder, Canvas is an entirely different beast, though it did draw some inspiration from the imageboard.

While Canvas does allow anonymous posts, all users must register and they can only do so with their Facebook accounts. Their Facebook profiles are not made public and are only used for the sign up process.

The site already has quite a large and active community and the lighter tone of most of the images there make it a bit more friendly than other similar sites.

Canvas draws inspiration from 4chan, but the site that it's more similar to is Reddit. While the two are very different in their scope, a lot of people use Reddit to share memes and images something Canvas is clearly better equipped to do.
