Xamarin has announced MonoTouch 5.2, an update to the company’s software development kit (SDK) that introduces new capabilities to improve application performance and reduce the time it takes to build iPhone and iPad apps.

The company says MonoTouch 5.2 enables faster and easier creation of iPhone and iPad Dialogs, using the new MonoTouch.Dialog API that allows developers to create HIG-compliant iOS forms and dialog boxes.

Developers can now show table-based information without having to write countless delegates and controllers for the UI and. This goes hand in hand with the UITableView support, pull-to-refresh, and the built-in searching capabilities.

Improvements in memory management enable devs to find, diagnose and fix memory leaks. A brand new memory profiler is now available in MonoTouch that provides new tooling to enable developers to track managed objects’ memory usage growth.

Finally, there’s a new unit testing framework (Touch.Unit) for performing on-device testing of individual functions and procedures.

Developers working with MonoTouch 5.2 are promised to achieve a native iPhone / iPad experience for their customers.

MonoTouch 5.2 includes more than 300 new enhancements all geared towards making iOS apps easier to develop, according to Xamarin. A full list of features can be viewed here.

Commenting on their new release, Miguel de Icaza, chief technology officer of Xamarin, said “Xamarin’s cross-platform development products, MonoTouch and Mono for Android, provide the power of the .NET frameworks that millions of developers already use, along with complete access to all native APIs and UI toolkits for iOS and Android – this allows you to create truly unique native experiences on each operating system.”

“Now with MonoTouch 5.2, we are giving developers powerful capabilities to build better quality iPhone and iPad apps faster and easier than available anywhere else,” de Icaza added.
