Network Security Toolkit, a bootable ISO live CD based on Fedora Linux, designed to provide easy access to best-of-breed Open Source Network Security Applications that should run on most x86 platforms, is now at version 20-5663.

The distribution is based on the Fedora 20 operating system, which has been integrating updates since its release.

"This release is based on Fedora 20 using Linux Kernel: '3.12.10-300.fc20.' Significant effort has been devoted to bringing this release on par with Fedora 20. Starting with NST 20, the 'Mate' Desktop is now the preferred desktop," reads the official announcement.

The biggest improvement featured in this version is the addition of a new drag zoom feature to the "NST Ntopng IPv4 Hosts" application.

"Ntopng is a network traffic probe used for high-speed web-based traffic analysis and flow collection. This drag zoom feature implements a traditional method fo“r zooming in on a particular area of interest on Google Maps by positioning and sizing a zoom rectangle with the mouse," is also stated in the announcement.

Highlights of Network Security Toolkit 20-5663:

• The "Mate Desktop" and the "LightDM GTK Desktop" login screen greeters are now the preferred defaults for NST; • A new NST WUI page for the network utility script, "getipaddr," has been added; • A new "Network Interface Renaming" mode has been added to the NST script. According to the developers, "nstnetcfg" creates Predictable Network Interface Names and it will survive each system reboot. This capability is beneficial to an NST system equipped with multiple Network Interface adapters; • "IPv4 Alias Address Management" has been added into the NST script; • The networking and security applications included have been updated to their latest version; • A lot of smaller updates have been implemented.
