Verizon hopes to strike a deal with Microsoft rather than Nokia

Verizon customers are certainly displeased with the fact that they still don’t have the Nokia Lumia 929 in their hands and, judging by the latest hearsay, that will definitely not happen this year.

We reported yesterday that Nokia Lumia 929 had been postponed for an early 2014 release, though the smartphone was supposed to go on sale on December 20.

Obviously, the December 20 was a rumored date coming from sources familiar to Nokia, so we can’t really tell how accurate it was. Although we’ve reported that the smartphone was delayed, no info on the reasons behind that delay were available at that time.

Today, NokiaPoweruser reports that one of their trusted tipsters claims that the main reason that Verizon decided not to release the Lumia 929 is money.

Apparently, the Big Red prefers to enter a distribution agreement with Microsoft rather than Nokia, thinking that the Redmond-based company is willing to infuse a higher marketing budget into the launch of Lumia 929.

While the promotion of a product is very important, the delay of Lumia 929 until Microsoft/Nokia deal closes next year doesn’t really make sense.

As of now, Nokia Lumia 929 is rumored to be officially announced in late January or early February, but there’s a high chance that the smartphone may not even make it to Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014, which is set to kick off in late February.

Unfortunately, this theory is based on rumors coming from insiders, so the uncertainty still hovers over Nokia Lumia 929’s release date and the reasons behind its delay.

It will be interesting to see whether Nokia will be present at the next Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in early January and if the Finnish company will showcase new products.

Perhaps the Lumia 929 will be officially unveiled at the trade fair and will go on sale a few weeks later. Stay tuned for more details on the matter.
