The team could polish the experience and launch it as DLC

Andy Schatz, the leader of the PocketWatch Games team that created Monaco: What’s Yours Is Mine, says that the experience originally had a number of competitive multiplayer modes and that at least one of them might be added to the released title.

The developer states during an Ask Me Anything on Reddit that, during the development process, he tested two modes called Cops and Robbers and Thief versus Thief.

He states, “We got them to playable, but we discovered that for both modes the balance didn’t really work within the existing levels. We were going to have to build entirely new content tailored to them in order to make them feel at the same level of quality.”

In Thief versus Thief, players competed for coins on different floors of each level before trying to snatch the trophy and reach an exit.

The PocketWatch Games team failed to make the mode feel fun for both engaged players and abandoned its development.

Cops and Robbers also lacked balance because one of the two sides tended to be overpowered.

Schatz adds, “in the early levels it was too easy for the thieves to win and in the later levels, it was almost impossible for the players to win. When it worked, though, it was incredibly fun.”

Many of the fans who took part in the Reddit talk expressed an interest in playing the two modes even if they were not quite finished and the developer said that Cops and Robbers could be finished and might arrive as downloadable content.

Monaco: What’s Yours Is Mine is a quick and fun experience that delivers a variety of characters with unique abilities and challenges the player to navigate a number of well-designed levels.

The game is available on the PC and the team finally eliminated the bug that prevented the Xbox Live Arcade launch.
