Smaller teams lack the resources to show off their titles

Andy Schatz, one of the leading developers at Pocketwatch Games who worked on Monaco, says that the Microsoft announcement that self-publishing for indies will be allowed on the Xbox One is welcomed but should be accompanied by more initiative to support smaller teams.

He tells ShackNews that, “If Microsoft doesn’t promote your game, it will still be a gigantic uphill battle to see any sort of meaningful sales.”

The creators of the Xbox One are saying that the console can be used for actual development and that more information will be offered during the Gamescom event in August.

Monaco was a hit on the Xbox Live service, where Pocketwatch worked with Majesco, but Schatz says that he would have wanted to self-publish the game on the Xbox 360 if the option had been available.

The Xbox One is set to launch in November for 499 dollars or Euro.
