Mom Bleaching Kids’ Teeth on ‘Toddlers and Tiaras’ Causes Outrage

TLC’s reality show “Toddlers and Tiaras” is a hit and, some would say, part of its appeal is that it’s so outrageous. After causing a ruckus when it showed a mom waxing her 9-year-old daughter's eyebrows, the show is now making waves with a mom that bleaches her kids’ teeth.

The latest episode of the show includes footage of Lori apparently putting her son and daughter through hell because she wants them to have whiter teeth and despite the fact that they’re definitely not into bleaching.

Lori is deaf to their pleas and blind to whatever signals her kids may be sending to her about not wanting to have their teeth bleached, as the video below will confirm.

When confronted by her husband, who tells the cameras he had no idea of what his wife was doing, she even lies that “they love it” even though they can be seen wincing in the background.

“I bleach my children's teeth at least once a week – whether we have a pageant coming up or not,” Lori says, explaining herself to the camera.

“There’s no harm in bleaching their teeth, as long as you use something that the children can stand the taste of, you’re alright,” she says.

Ironically, though, she knows that she shouldn’t be bleaching her kids’ teeth and even jokes about it, telling her husband the procedure is included in a book she keeps in the bathroom, “The 7 Worst Things Parents Do.”

Shortly after the episode in question aired on TLC, concerned viewers were already lashing out at Lori for how irresponsible and self-centered she can be for putting her daughter and son through this, the Daily Mail informs.

“This show just makes me so sad, and now we have another torture method to add to the heap these sorry moms make their children undergo like fake tans and body waxing...” Julie Ryan Evans, of parenting website CafeMom, says.

“I just can’t imagine how parents think these things are okay to do to children. Besides the physical pain and potential harm, the message they’re sending their children – that this is what’s important – is heartbreaking,” Evans underline.
