The team is relying on gamers to offer solid feedback

Peter Molyneux, the leader of the development team at 22Cans, says that his company is currently focused on the development of the Godus concept and has once again suggested that this might be the final traditional game he will work on.

The veteran game maker is quoted by VG247 as saying that, “Founding a company, an entity, grounded by the thought that we aren’t just going to go and fill up one idea after another idea. We’re going to be centralizing all of our creativity on one entity, and that entity is Godus.”

The game was unveiled after 22Cans created the Curiosity experience and is supposed to offer a modern new take on the classic God game genre.

Peter Molyneux says that he is grateful that the gaming industry has evolved enough in order to allow one team to focus fully on one project rather than always asking what their next project is and how it can be funded.

The Godus experience was launched for backers in pre-alpha form and some gamers reacted rather negatively to the core mechanics of the title.

But the criticism does not affect Peter Molyneux, who says that 22Cans is committed to the improvement of the core gameplay and will make sure that all fans are happy with the final version of the game.

He adds, “We have to have people play this game. If we closed the shutters and just developed it blind and then released it, I think we would’ve failed, but the very fact that this game has already been played by over a million people… That makes the chances of success far, far higher and that’s worth the risk.”

Feedback coming from the community allows the development team to see which areas of the title need more work and efficiently distribute its resources.

Godus is at the moment in beta stage and 22Cans and Peter Molyneux plan to deliver a full version of the God game to players on the PC, the Mac and mobile devices at some point in April.

The company will then support the experience with balance updates and with new content.

It’s unclear whether Molyneux will remain involved with the game or whether he will found another studio in order to explore another idea.

His old team at Lionhead is currently working on Fable Legends, a cooperative-focused prequel experience that will arrive this year on the Xbox One from Microsoft.
