Peter Molyneux, the creator of the Fable franchise and many other popular video games, admits that he hasn't really created a truly great game, at least in his eyes, up until now.

Molyneux, the lead creative designer at Microsoft's Lionhead Studios in the UK, has talked about his activity as a games creator, and how he believes that he hasn't actually made a truly great game up until now.

"It's not humility," he said. "It's the reality and the truth. I am a designer and I shouldn't stand up and say everything is wonderful and shiny and great and we made the greatest game ever, because we didn't."

According to his own beliefs, Molyneux hasn't gotten access to that prestigious club of triple-A game designers yet, as his titles still haven't reached that big of an audience up until now.

"Being inspired by your mistakes is one way of breaking into that triple-A club," said Molyneux. "It will always be my consistent dream to break into that club. I've made a lot of good games, but never a great game."

How does Molyneux figure out if a game is great instead of just good? If people will place it among their top five best games every played.

"I've never made a game that people will put in their Top Five list of all-time greats," he says. "You might consider one of mine, but I don't think you'd put it in."

If you really want a sales number associated with a great game, Molyneux says that it is five million, as "once you can sell that many, you can get into that elite group."

Molyneux worked on franchises like Black & White or the Fable one, which is currently getting ready to see its third installment, Fable III, for the Xbox 360 and PC.

Fable III will be released on October 26 in North America and October 29 in Europe, for the Xbox 360, and in December for the PC.

What do you think? Is one of Molyneux's games among your top five?
