The creators of the very successful indie game Minecraft have said that they do not yet have a clear launch date in mind for their next title, Scrolls, but that they are aiming to make the experience as good as possible before launching a closed beta.

Speaking to Gamasutra, Jakob Porser, one of the founders of Mojang, spending the most time working on Scrolls, stated, “Actually I think we said six months at Minecon... So that's our goal and that's what we're working on, and that's kind of the next milestone for the development for the game.”

The developer also revealed that the idea of making a collectible card game with a twists was not driven by commercial reasons and organically grew from conversations that the Mojang team had about their future projects.

Porser added, “We were always talking about different games that we wanted to make, and I think the idea behind Scrolls just kind of grew over a number of years. We're both big fans of collectible card games as well, and we want to try and make a collectible card game that is more designed for digital use.”

Scrolls was also chosen because the Mojang team has a rebel streak and was eager to prove that they could create something that was very different from Minecraft while retaining the level of innovation and the quality of the end product.

Scrolls might never become as popular as Minecraft and might never reach the same amount of players but the development team working on the game believes that they will have been successful as long as they manage to create a game that they will end up playing in the long term.

Mojang is still working on Minecraft, which is now getting version 1.2 and Notch, the main developers behind the game, has also launched an initiative that will offer more power to those who created mods for the game.
