Moggi Was Using Mutu for Money Laundry

As I was saying yesterday, each passing day brings newer and more interesting pieces of information regarding the corruption scandal involving Juventus Turin.

And nobody can ignore it. Especially since the situation gets more and more complicated, and involves, most recently, Romanian striker Adrian Mutu.

Also known in Italy as the "Mutu Operation", the transaction after which Mutu became a Juventus player seemed to have happened in a clearly illegal manner, bringing serious losses to the Italian IRS. Yesterday, the "La Stampa" newspaper released the information that there were many financial complications in the Mutu transfer.

Luciano Moggi seemed to have shown to the IRS officials and Juventus owners too false receipts regarding the Romanian's transfer costs. As a matter of fact, Mutu cost Juventus nothing when coming to play on Delle Alpi, his transfer being free of charge.

Only now we can fully understand why the Chelsea officials were so furious after Mutu left the club without any financial compensation. The receipts were being "invented" by a fictive company in the UK. So, thanks to Mutu`s situation, Moggi stuffed more than a few millions in his pocket.

Mutu was thrown out of Chelsea in the summer of 2004, after testing positive for illegal substances - cocaine. In order to buy him from Chelsea, Juventus had to release another player that came from a non-EU country. But Juventus officials disagreed to the FIFA regulations and wanted to make it happen in another way. So Mutu was first transferred to Livorno - considered one of Juve's "children". Since the Serie A regulations state nothing concerning the transfer of a non-EU player in the mid-season, Livorno sold Mutu to Juventus.
