James McDermott, associate producer at Relic, says that the development team explored and played a lot of community mods for the original Company of Heroes while creating the sequel, trying to see what fans wanted from the game and what the engine could support.

The developer tells Eurogamer that, “We look at all the different mods that are made, all the community activity. We take that all to heart when it comes to developing the game.”

He adds, “We try to improve and do some even better things in Company of Heroes 2.”

The new game will explore the Eastern Front of World War II, with new mechanics linked to weather and its influence on battles.

There are also more units for the Soviets and German forces to use and has features modifications that will influence player strategies.

Company of Heroes 2 will be out on the PC during the first half of the year.
