Atul Bagga, who is an analyst working with Lazard Capital Markets, has said that the pre-order numbers for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, the first person shooter from developers Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games and publisher Activision, have gone over the 9 million copies mark.

This is estimated to be more than 70 percent more than the numbers seen by its direct predecessor, Modern Warfare 2, and about 55& more than the high water mark set by Black Ops, the 2010 launch that was handled by Treyarch.

Modern Warfare 2 reached overall sales of 22 million copies, while Black Ops has topped that with 25 million.

The new Call of Duty will have another multiple viewpoint single player campaign which will tell the story of a conflict between Russia and the United States.

The main attraction to the game will be the multiplayer mode, which comes with tweaks and new modes and with an expanded cooperative element.
