Raptr, the social gaming service that tracks player behavior and playtime, has announced that on the Xbox 360 home console from Microsoft, the platform that is widely seen as the most first person shooter oriented of the current generation, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has beat Battlefield 3 in terms of playtime by 40 percent during each title's launch day.

Raptr has come to the conclusion by analyzing the playing habits of its members, who number about 10 million and tracking their behavior,

Those who like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 from Infinity Ward and Activision have logged in an average of 6.19 hours of game play while those who enjoyed Battlefield 3 from DICE and Electronic Arts dedicate 4.45 hours, on average, of their day to the video game.

Dennis Fong, who is the Chief Executive Officer of Raptr, stated, “The battle for dominance for the first-person shooter market in 2011 is clearly in Activision’s favor. EA made a valiant effort evangelizing its fanbase and generating massive support around the launch of Battlefield 3.”

He added, “Given how well received the game was, EA has a powerful opportunity to take things further next year, though it’s clear at this point that Call of Duty is a phenomenon that is unrivaled.”

During the first week the balance shifted a little and the advantage for Modern Warfare 3 has gone down to just about 17 percent, playing an average 20.45 hours when compared to the 17.37 of those who played Battlefield 3.

Raptr also pointed out that 53 percent of those who have played Battlefield 3 also gave time to its main rival while just 31% of those who were primarily Modern Warfare 3 shooters gave any time to the competitor.

Both games have good first week sales of more than 5 million units.
