The Javelin Glitch should now be a horror of past matches

Activision and Infinity Ward's Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 proved to be the biggest entertainment launch of all times, in spite of the entire PC controversy that surrounded it. And, with a single-player campaign of just a few hours, it's understandable that the game's community focused on multiplayer. Out of all the millions of people that bought the title, the majority of them ended up at one point or another in an online match, so things like lags, bugs, exploits and cheats were bound to become a problem. And, of course, all of them are present, including the cheats that became available on day one for the PC.

As far as exploits go, one of the biggest and most obnoxious ones, though sometimes fun, is the infamous Javelin Glitch. While effective with pretty much any launcher weapon, the glitch turned the MW2 battlefield into a suicidal-bomber nightmare.

Infinity Ward got word of this pretty quickly, and started working on a fix without delay, but while the PC would get it as soon as it was ready, the consoles would have to wait a bit longer. For a patch to be applied to the game, it has to first pass the console manufacturer's certification.

These obstacles have finally been removed, and the 1.06 patch is ready to tweak the game. Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling tweeted the announcement for the PlayStation 3 version as well as for the Xbox 360 one. “PS3 update 1.06 is the javelin fix, care package glitch fix, and addresses areas where players could get into geo. Like rocks on Afghan,” he said.

As for Microsoft's console, “For those playing #MW2 on Xbox 360. The same fixes that are in 1.06 are coming to you, it's currently in Microsoft cert. Out of my hands.” So, now that peace and order have finally been restored to the universe, we can go back to camping with our heartbeat detectors in pace.
