With Halo 3: ODST now out, it seems that Modern Warfare 2 from Activision and Infinity Ward is the videogame that players are most interested in picking up in the coming period, at least according to the GamePlan Insights study conducted by OTX, whose aim was to compile a list of the most attractive titles to be released in the next months.

Nick Williams, who is an analyst with OTX, was quoted by Gamasutra as saying that “Modern Warfare 2 continues to post impressive metrics across the board, ranking second in aided awareness, first in pre-order, and third in intent-to-rent on GameFly.” He also notes that “In addition, Uncharted 2 has the highest intent-to-rent on GameFly during the last two weeks, which is indicative of favorable word-of-mouth building among enthusiast gamers.”

The study finds that more casual gamers are giving hardcore players a run for their money, with Wii Fit Plus from Nintendo being even more known in the gaming demographic than Modern Warfare 2. Assassin's Creed II is third in purchase intention followed by New Super Mario Bros. for the Nintendo Wii, which is fourth, and by God of War III that is not due until March 2010.

Final Fantasy XIII is also pretty appealing to gamers, more than the PS3 version of Modern Warfare 2, which sits at seven. It's interesting to note that the only handheld title to crop up in the top ten chart when it comes to purchase intention is Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars for the PlayStation Portable.

Starcraft II, which was delayed well into 2010, is judged to be less attractive than Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games and than Mass Effect 2. But the Insight study proves that publishers were right to clear a patch during the fall release schedule for the behemoth that Modern Warfare 2 will be.
