They lack the personality of older titles in the genre

Dean Evans, a creative director at Ubisoft, says that the decision to use a science fiction world based on the ‘80s for the upcoming Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is motivated by the current trend to create modern-day military shooters that lack personality.

The developer tells Eurogamer that, “I’m certainly a bit tired of shooters that take place in a modern setting and that have quite a lot of warfare.”

He adds, “Things don’t have to make much sense.”

Evans praises the way other development teams, including Platinum Games and Hideo Kojima’s team, approach the genre by introducing ridiculous and weird gameplay elements.

Blood Dragon was leaked after an uPlay hack and is set to be officially launched on May 1 on the PC and current-generation consoles via digital distribution.
