Microsoft isn’t yet offering a Metro-based file manager, but users are allowed to choose from a wide variety of replacements, some of which come with a very straightforward and appealing design.

The so-called Modern File Explorer, the one called by its developers “the Windows Store version of Windows File Explorer using Metro style,” recently received an update that brings several unnamed bug fixes to all Windows 8 users.

Microsoft is also believed to be working on its own file manager that could be released together with Windows 8.1, a major upgrade for Windows 8 that could see daylight as soon as this summer.

Microsoft’s own file manager, on the other hand, will pack better Windows integration and SkyDrive support, so, in addition to the locally stored files, you’ll also have the possibility to browse the items stored in the cloud.
