Ricki Hall is a British model and entrepreneur whose look would be best described as either “hipster” or typically lumbersexual. Whatever you call him, though, don’t call him a hipster: he hates it.
The Internet hates him too, by the way. He was profiled in the Sunday Times where, in between saying he wasn’t a hipster and gushing about his extensive collection of tattoos, he also dropped this gem: he takes fashion tips from the homeless.
Ricki Hall and one very ill-advised comment
By today’s trends in male beauty, Hall is a very gorgeous man: he’s very much into fashion and isn’t afraid to think outside the box with his styling, he’s manly and tattooed, and he’s rocking a massive beard and long hair.
He can look “homeless chic,” but he can also look very sharp and put together, depending on the occasion. He can be versatile in his approach to fashion, and this has helped him branch out of modeling, into launching his own business, which, as of now, includes his own brand of beard oil and clothing items.
Hall refuses to be branded a “hipster” or to be put in a box, labeled one thing or another. He loves beauty in all its manifestations and expresses it through his fashion.
Which brings us to his ill-advised comment.
“I use this time [listening to heavy death metal] to think about my day, maybe my next fashion statement,” Hall told the British publication in the interview. “I take style tips from everything, even kids and homeless people. They can put anything together and it just works.”
Twitter turns on Hall, names him real-life Zoolander
It feels completely unreal to hear of an allegedly educated man telling a media outlet that he finds “style inspiration” in the “style” of the homeless people, as if homelessness and everything that goes with it is a choice.
Twitter has reacted harshly to Hall’s choice of words, making his Sunday Times interview go viral and driving home the comparison to a real-life Zoolander. If Ben Stiller’s famous character existed in real life, he would probably use the pseudonym Ricki Hall.
As of the time of writing, he is still being viciously mocked online for showing what a pretentious, self-absorbed… hipster he is.
You can see some choice messages on Twitter below. Obviously, we had to leave some of them out because they included offensive language, but you can find them all online, under hashtags like #RickHall and #Zoolander.
